# Account deletion

Closing your account signs you out and closes your ZeroTick account. This guide shows you where to do it, what happens to your funds and your data, and the exact steps to confirm.

{% hint style="info" %}
You close your account from **Account & Security**, opened from the profile menu at the top right. The Settings page has a **Sign Out** button but no close option, so this card is the only place to close your account.
{% endhint %}

### What happens to your funds

Closing your account does not touch your wallet or its funds. ZeroTick is non-custodial, which means your keys belong to you, not to ZeroTick. The Close Account card says it plainly: "Your non-custodial wallet keys remain yours."

You keep access to your wallet through your recovery kit. If you have not saved it yet, download it before you close your account, so you can always restore your wallet in an outside app. See [Recovery kit](https://zerotick-trade.gitbook.io/documentation.v1.1/user-guides/recovery-kit).

### What happens to your data

Closing your account and erasing your personal data are two separate actions.

* **Closing your account** signs you out and closes the account. You do this from the card below.
* **Erasing your personal data** is a separate request. The card says: "For full erasure of your personal data, contact <privacy@zerotick.trade>." Email `privacy@zerotick.trade` from your registered email to make that request.

Some information cannot be erased, such as public blockchain records and records ZeroTick must keep by law. For what ZeroTick deletes, what it keeps, and for how long, see the [Privacy Policy](https://zerotick-trade.gitbook.io/documentation.v1.1/privacy-policy).

### Close your account

{% hint style="warning" %}
Confirming closes your account and signs you out right away. Save your recovery kit first so you keep access to your wallet.
{% endhint %}

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open the Close Account card

Open the profile menu at the top right and select **Account & Security**. Scroll to the **Close Account** card at the bottom of the modal.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Confirm you want to close

Press **Close account**. The card asks you to confirm and replaces the button with **Cancel** and **Confirm**. To go ahead, press **Confirm**; it reads **Closing…** while the request completes. To stop, press **Cancel** and nothing changes.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Enter your 2FA code (if 2FA is on)

If two-factor authentication is enabled on your account, the **Confirm with 2FA** dialog opens: "Enter a code from your authenticator app to continue." Type the 6-digit code and press **Confirm**. A wrong code shows "That code isn't valid. Try again." and lets you retry. If you have not set up 2FA, this step does not appear.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="success" %}
Your account is closed and you are signed out, back at the login page.
{% endhint %}

<details>

<summary>Why am I asked for a 2FA code?</summary>

Closing your account is a protected action. When two-factor authentication is enabled, ZeroTick asks for a fresh code first, the same as changing your security settings or sending to an external address. Enter a current authenticator code to continue. See [Two-factor authentication](https://zerotick-trade.gitbook.io/documentation.v1.1/user-guides/two-factor-authentication).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Closing did not work</summary>

If the close cannot complete, you see "Couldn't close your account. Please try again." Your account stays open and you stay signed in. Check your connection and try again.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I want my data deleted, not just my account closed</summary>

Closing your account is separate from erasing your data. Email `privacy@zerotick.trade` from your registered email to request full erasure of your personal data. Some records cannot be deleted, such as public blockchain data and records kept by law; see the [Privacy Policy](https://zerotick-trade.gitbook.io/documentation.v1.1/privacy-policy).

</details>

<details>

<summary>I cannot find Close Account in Settings</summary>

The close option is not on the Settings page. Open the profile menu, select **Account & Security**, and scroll to the **Close Account** card at the bottom. The Settings page only offers **Sign Out**.
